International Scholarly Conference “Faces of Russian Imperialism: From the Past to the Present”

Participation in the International Scholarly Conference “Faces of Russian Imperialism: From the Past to the Present,” held on 8–9 December 2025 at the University of Warsaw, Faculty of History.

Participation as an expert with the paper “Liberation from Russian Imperial Cultural Influence as a Form of Catharsis in Ukrainian Art, Visualized in the Content Published on Instagram by Ukrainian Cultural Media in 2022–2025.”

The presentation analysed the Instagram content of Ukrainian cultural media from 2022–2025 (@liroomcomua, @chytomo_books, @post.impreza, @yabl.ua, @sensormedia.ua, @shtukango, @suspilne.culture, @kultprostir, @esthetic.intelligence, among others) in order to identify the themes, forms, characteristics, core functions, and the essence of the process of liberating Ukrainian culture from Russian imperial cultural influence. This process becomes visualized and articulated within digital culture through its specific means and tools of visual communication.

The presentation highlighted the types of media narratives, media concepts (in the conceptual sense), and media conceptions (in the categorical sense) through which cultural media engage in dialogue with their audiences. A cross-cutting media conception, “Stolen Culture,” was examined, and its role in the process of freeing Ukrainian art from Russian imperial narratives was discussed.

This process constitutes an integral part of the catharsis of Ukrainian art – its cleansing, renewal, revival, and return to authenticity – a process that is inherently conflict-generating, as it has been activated and intensified by the Russian-Ukrainian war.
